I just can’t tonight… I just cannot. Been a long day, lots of driving around! For what it is worth, it has not been a bad day though. Despite some snippiness at the finish line, I managed to limp across and claim another day as a win. I will leave this brief thought: Addiction, particularly the biological hacking of dopamine receptors, is a complex issue that merits further discussion.
Addiction is a method of hacking the human brain to accept inputs at the dopamine receptors from select chemical stimuli to illicit the pleasure response. This response is the same instinct we use to eat, sleep, poop, kill, and fuck; this hacking does not go without causing instability across the system. Think 1990’s Matrix style hacking and not TikTok Lifehacks, this is a messy affair. The end result is when you hack your brain to accept chemical input as pleasure you eliminate the parts that make you HUMAN! “Feeling Good” is many things to a healthy individual but what it is not, is a switch you turn on whenever you want. This biological hacking of dopamine receptors will undo us as a species if we do not adapt!
Know this: Pleasure is a fleeting moment, what you want and are looking for is JOY! Joy is a continuous state of satisfaction. What does a person do when they are satisfied? They stop wanting more! This is the end of the journey if you make it here. Just be uncomfortable enough to keep looking until the time is right. Life is so much more fun when there is a mystery!
