I have been spending a lot of time in Lincoln County lately. Specifically Sod, Sumerco, Yawkey, Griffithsville, and even Julian. It is a truly beautiful area, especially Yeager Highway along Midway road. The change in perspective from the deep narrow valley to looking across the mountain tops for miles and miles just makes me feel a certain kind of way. A good way! Thankful to be alive and breathing air. Please take a look along the Sumerco Summit as I refer to it, because it is a truly special place!
I have never thought this about West Virginia, but if I won the lottery, I would want to buy some land out there! But absent that or my blog and YouTube channel taking off it is just a dream for now.
I do want to share something dark about that place with you. There is a particular spot that I know the dashcam does not do justice, but IF you were to skid off road right there you would plunge a couple hundred feet straight into the creek. I have thought about my own mortality passing through there and how temporary life is. I had the thought that I would laugh next time I passed it instead of catastrophizing. Laughing at something that could kill you is such a freeing experience! Truly!
Now that I appreciate life especially mine, I think of how beautiful this place is. Marred only by human activity, but in our own way we are just trying to live just like the land is trying to exist! Thank you for riding with me!
