My current career choice was not my first, or even third, I have tried working every imaginable job before and was miserable after a time at all of them. This was not the jobs’ fault; it was mine and my mindset. However, one constant I noticed is a growing boredom that comes from doing a singular job. I did not anticipate the need to keep my mind occupied to be so great. It appears boredom is my biggest foe!
I have spent most of the last decade as a district manager for a local pizza chain, and I assure you that job took the longest for me to get bored. However, that day would arrive eventually! It took a few years, but I knew once I got to the point where employees were bringing guns to work, and it didn’t excite me much that it was time to hang it up! After leaving that job I tried food service again and spent a spell as a front desk manager. I realized that what I wanted was a job that I could do autonomously, understand, and make money without being constantly “managed”. I gradually found that with free-lance delivery work.
My days are now filled with driving and listening to music while I think about how to be a better person! That is not to say nothing exciting happens… So, this day I had the following fun story:
About 52:00 I went to deliver and some guy pulled up in a grey pickup and asked me for the name of the person I was delivering to. I do not give out personal details as a matter of principle, seen bad things happen over the years. I told him I can’t give him the name, then I went and placed the package and rang the bell and went back to my car. When I got back to the car the guy turned his truck off and told me he wasn’t moving unless I told him who I was delivering to. At this point I got in my vehicle and called 911. I yelled back that if he wanted to steal the package or read the name on it himself, he could, but I was leaving, and the cops were coming. During all this the homeowner came out and told the man to let me out. He was still refusing; at some point he did back up and I pulled out and around. I had to make a police report so the rest of this is me driving to calm down. I had to cut out parts that violated my customers privacy, but expect an upcoming video where I play the audio from the 911 call ๐ (I wear a bodycam when delivering because of stuff like this) at 58:34 we resume in South Charleston on US119″
At least I know boredom will not stalk me so close at my new job. Less management means more unexpected! Thank you for riding with me!
