What Does Recovery Look Like: Becoming a Part of Society

What Does Recovery Look Like: Becoming a Part of Society

As I am relearning what it means to be a good person, I still fall back on old habits that will not do me any favors in my new life! Anger has been something I watch out for, but now that I know it stems from fear it has been stalking me less lately. Just as everyone get “addicted” to their thing in their own way, I feel that there is more than one way to get clean or sober. This is not news to anyone in the recovery community. Take a survey of people that self-reported being an addict after they got clean a period of time and ask them “how” they got sober, and everyone will have a slightly different answer.

A couple of sayings that really stick with me 20 months out of rehab for the last time:

  • Make the rest of your life the best of your life!
  • Getting sober is really easy all you have to do is change everything!
  • The best part about getting sober is you get your emotions back! The worst part about getting sober is YOU GET YOUR EMOTIONS BACK!
  • Keep your side of the street clean!
  • Victims don’t get sober! (unfortunately, this one I had to test a few times)

If you or anyone you know needs someone to talk to about addiction, and are on the eastern seaboard of the United States, please try (888) 771-8372

Those people are life savers that really care and strive to provide a safe environment for all types of people! Now, like I said before recovery looks as different as addiction can so just keep trying even if you are not ready to go to an inpatient rehabilitation program. You only lose when you give up, and hope will get you a lot farther than dopamine. Thank you for riding with me!
