I was originally wanting to do a little write up tonight on the woman of Buffalo in the 1950s who ran to take over the city government. However, I had a more personal and pertinent topic for tonight. I want to talk about self-doubt. The voice that we either spend too much time listening to or seem to shut out entirely. A healthy amount of self-doubt can make one appear approachable and down to earth while too little comes across as foolish and too much comes across as timid. I have gone back in forth in my life of shutting out the voice and yielding wholly to it. I have come to the conclusion that now is the time to try balance!
What am I insecure about? Well funny enough, I’m annoying, I’m fat, I’m dumb, I’m negative, I’m needy, I’m an asshole, I’m uncaring, I am too emotional, I am not strong enough, I’m untrustworthy, I’m a thief, I don’t look the way I would like… That is a good start right! You know what, every one of those things about me is true, but they are also completely false at different times of my life. Some more of that paradox shit 🙁
I have a feeling that by me putting out on the internet that those are my biggest insecurities, I will blunt the future effects of any of them paralyzing me in shame! I started doing YouTube videos with my actual voice and face precisely because the thought of doing that scared me. Now I enjoy getting on and screaming into the void, I notice I have more confidence when I do them. Why? Only because I have now done it and it is not a mystery anymore. There is nothing scarier than the unknown. Sometimes if you dive into the cold deep you are more likely to get in the water.
