I went to Beckley to visit my parents and brought my soon to be step-son along for the journey. We had a great time, I enjoyed the company and having someone to listen to my inane stories about growing up in Beckley, WV in the 1990s.

A highlight for him was our visit to the newly opened Beckley Service Plaza on the West Virginia Turnpike. I think an old High School bandmate of mine is the director of the Turnpike so shout out to Jeff Miller if you are still running things, you are doing a great job! In particular was the Popeye’s which opened and really had my boys attention throughout the journey. Chicken sandwich ftw!

Anyway, back to my rambling account of our adventure. So, I needed to trade cars back with my parents since the Kia had gotten fixed in Bluefield at the dealership. My Dad took care of that for me and graciously let me use a vehicle while it was being worked on, so shout out to that man too! We made the trip down, the weather was not pretty but no rain or snow makes for a nice trip on the WV turnpike any day.

We noticed on the way down that they had already closed the Morton Travel Plaza and torn it down (all except for the back wall near receiving and the old cash office). The Beckley Plaza is much brighter and more modern appearing than I remembered from my time working there. The service was good, the cashier at Popeye’s even referred to me as “My boy Bryan!” which just made my day.

I wish I had more time to spend with my parents on this trip, but a return visit will be in order soon. I look forward to relaying all the details here. As always, thank you for riding with me!

Things are going well, a little too well if you know what I mean. I have been firing at all cylinders for the most part lately. I am not trying to toot my own horn or be a martyr, but things have slowly been coming together. It might just turn out that hard work, honest living, and a sober mind might work for me. It might work for you too!

Nothing is a silver bullet with life as far as I can tell. I would hate to have to admit that life IS fair all the time, but I know there is no danger of that. So for me, for the meantime, things are going well, Hello darkness my old friend.

I have a family that wants me in their lives which is a welcome scenario for sure! I have a family that I want to be in their lives, so win-win! I don’t have a W2 job, but I am making 1099 income this year from DoorDash and Spark. While I would rather not do that forever, I have to admit I do enjoy it. Hello, darkness, my old friend, brings me to this.

I really have been enjoying this blog and the YouTube videos. I wouldn’t say I am particularly good, but I don’t think I am awful. I also enjoy making and watching them so I don’t have too much skin in the game, but I am eager to continue. I find these journal entries to be therapeutic, as well as rewatching the videos and notating it is making my memory recall much stronger.

Then why on earth am I depressed? Not continuously thank goodness, but there is not any rational reason to be feeling down at all right now. Then I remember… Hello darkness my old friend, I have been so used to being miserable that I got comfortable with it. I enjoy it in a sick twisted way. It is the antithesis of the positivity I am endeavoring to create! Still, it is a part of me. I would do well to not cast it off entirely.

So I take my licks as I give them to myself and jump back on my horse to ride on. I enjoy the company of my old friend depression. I come to talk with you again…

I have spent more time in Boone county in 2025 then I have in my life. Considering I think I have only been there once prior it wasn’t a hard record to break. However, since WalMart in Southridge is allowing delivery as far away as Chapmanville I have been making the trek quite regularly. Which works great for me because I find the area absolutely beautiful.

On this particular day I took a trip to Ashford, WV and came back through Rumble, WV on the way to Hernshaw and Marmet. Half of those being places I had not been to before I excitedly accepted the delivery!

The Kia needed some work done, and my parents graciously loaned me their other car while mine is in the shop. I am so thankful for that, because life would certainly stop for me without a car currently. Not for long though, I would just have to get back used to taking the bus until I could find another job.

I kind of hate that I have become so dependent on having a car, but I remind myself that it is just a part of how my life is currently structured. Aside from enjoying driving, and filming content; I also use my car for income through DoorDash and Spark.

Part of me pines for the days I didn’t have a car, just to not have the financial burden. To be honest, I feel like having a car is a bit wasteful with my present financial landscape. However, my geographic location is not friendly to people not having a vehicle. It is mountainous and the public transportation options are limited.

So, I am stuck with a car that I so badly want and have worked into my life, but I can’t help but wonder “Did I create my own situation?”. Well, the answer to that question is always yes. I have proven that again and again to myself. I am my own worst enemy, and guardian angel. Good thing I don’t have a choice!
