Unlimited Grace
I do not provide universal and unlimited grace in any respect, but I do provide unlimited grace when progress is being shown. I have to remember to give grace to myself just as much as others. Everyone is their own worst critic, and I am no different. However, I find as I get older I am just tired of hating myself. I have spent a lot of time thinking about it, and I have not done anything beyond what I think many people have done in their lives.
I am reminded of the words of the famous song: “In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make”. I feel like I am an open book, my skeletons are fully out and on display. I post about it here, and if you wonder something about me just ask! So I think I have put myself through enough hell. What I haven’t done to myself karma has assuredly done through my life at this point. That said, I try to extend unlimited grace where I can.
So I begin anew, I live every day 200% because I wasted too many days. I build the life I want for myself. I have faith in myself to do the right thing and give myself grace when I fall short. I am not a saint, I claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection. Unlimited grace is my goal. Let me share my strength, experience, and hope with you until you build your own! It is only by giving away what I have freely that I am able to hold onto my own sobriety.
With love, I thank you for Riding With Me!

Having a job and work have always been central to my personal identity. When I was a child I always wanted to be a teacher. At the time I thought it was because I had an innate desire to teach and educate. In my older years I have come to realize I may have simply been unimaginative. Maybe I did not know to look beyond my own immediate environment for a definition of work.
My parents for their part seemed to model work well. Dad always worked, and Mom usually worked too. I had excellent role models in both as far as working went. I knew you had to show up, be willing to help, and not lazy. I might have even been cautioned against being dumb at work, competence.
Still I had so naive views on work. For one I think I took it for granted that if you wanted to work you would have a job. I think I imagined we would sign up for one at a field day like event in the school’s gymnasium. I thought you would have to mess up something royal to lose that job, and somewhere I got the crazy idea that your workplace would take care of you. As long as you were willing to work they would pay you regardless of schedule. I thought the food at the restaurant was free (that might have been wishful thinking). Long story short, I didn’t know shit from Shinola.
I got straightened out with time, some lessons were easier than others. One thing that I never did realize until it happened was how important work would be to me. Idol hands are the Devil’s playground as my Grandma used to say. Having something to do, that you love is essential to a happy life.
For the first time in my life, I actually don’t mind work. Even after I get going! I pick my own hours, I travel all over, the people I interact with are generally happy to see me. I just wish I had more time. So the point of this whole article is to tell you this: Time and Work are competing resources on the same bar. You will find you don’t have time for life when you hate work, and you won’t have time for work if you love your job. Take with that what you may, and as always: Thank You For Riding With Me!

My problems started when I had the inception of a thought at an early age. I was probably about 3-4 years old when I thought “What if I am the only thing that is real in the universe?”. Somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind it lurked, it still lurks. I of course know that thought not to be true, but it was the first of many bad ideas I had in my young life.
Another misconception I had about the same time was that someone somewhere was keeping score. Santa Clause, Grandpa, God? Someone in some tangible way was watching us. Like looking down on a city from a mountain top. That “thing” was in control, able to freely dole out punishment and riches to those deemed worthy. I have never known that God, and never felt aligned with a good, orderly direction.
I have known joy and pleasure in my life, perhaps to excess, but in those fleeting moments I felt there could be more. That even the most pleasure I have ever experienced could pale in comparison to the awe a creator must feel. Especially the joy found in teaching a young child something new, or caring for an injured pet or friend. Those experiences surely are not just a one off. Right?
Well, either way, I know one thing, I crave order and direction. I love it when my direction wins out. However, if I can’t get that, then I love someone else having a clear, cohesive, logical, fair strategy, and for them to be listened to by the group. Usually, in that order, but lately, I am trying to fall back unless I know I have the skill set needed to speak up. I am finding it makes my leadership experiences more productive. Embracing good orderly direction has made an impact.
What on the cosmic scale if any is in charge? What created all this energy and matter we see all around us? I guess I am not able to understand the mysteries of the universe, and maybe that is the reason for living. To TRY!
Thank you for Riding With Me!

Loyalty is doing the right thing for others even when you have nothing to gain. Loyalty is looking out for a friend who isn’t able to advocate for themselves. Loyalty is looking out for that same friend even though they just pissed you off! Who deserves your loyalty?
I can start with the easy one, if you made a baby you would do good to be loyal to it. If you have parents and they didn’t treat you too bad, it would do you good to be loyal to them. If you love someone unconditionally, you probably already know of the loyalty you feel to them.
Loyalty is not in being a martyr or sacrificing to your own detriment. Loyalty does not allow you to watch idly as your loved one jumps off a cliff. Even when they want to! That same loyalty would be a friend talking you off a cliff because they love you. Even when you want to jump!
Sometimes we do not know what we want because we have not experienced it yet. Wanting something you have not had yet can be foolhardy. Look before you leap, look with your heart, and lead with love! This is how you demonstrate your loyalty.
As always, thank you for riding with me!

West Virginia is not unlike every naturally beautiful part of the world I have seen. It seems that while the state has been blessed with great beauty it’s population struggles to get by in a changing world. This is the Paradox of Beauty and Pain. We have always been isolated by geography, but now increasingly we are isolated digitally as well. As the rest of the world moves off paper and online, West Virginia is caught balancing tradition and modernity on a fulcrum of too little money.
Tradition and modernity have been themes fighting for dominance in many Appalachian families. Often it is the mother of the family that will sacrifice in the extreme to see her children live better lives. The mother’s of Buffalo, West Virginia once banded together to run for many of the local offices during the early 1950s. Standing in the face of adversity these women brought attention from across the state. Ultimately the political ambitions for the woman were unsuccessful. Buffalo would have to wait quite a while for their first elected female official. The important thing is they did win an increase in education funding and the mayor was ousted. These were two of the biggest goals the group had.
Still the world moves on and West Virginia does too in her own way. We cling to tradition because it is sometimes all we have other than hope to hold on to. This brings me to the topic of today’s post. I can not wrap my head around the beauty and the poverty that embody the paradox of beauty and pain here. Our haves and have nots live side by side. Usually the “undesirable” house is a relative down on their luck. Maybe addiction is playing a role, but throughout it all the mountains look down on us. Living our small lives in the valley, just doing the best we can.
