Nihilism & Fatalism Meet @ The #Fu*kitBucket
Kendrick Lamar has a pretty popular song right now called “Not Like Us”. The song is great, I’m not here to talk about his Drake dis track other than to touch on nihilism and fatalism. They often meet in a mixing bowl I call the Fuck It Bucket. When things get stressful enough, I have a proven track record of saying nothing I do matters so why do anything. This freezing is what I refer to as the #FuckitBucket phenomenon.
Now if I get stuck there it is a problem so instead I fill it with things to not worry about. I am still finding balance in all things, including what to worry about and what I have no control over and never will. This is where having a belief in a higher order than yourself can be beneficial as well. Not that one must believe in God with a capital G, but accepting that there are things greater than yourself and your ability to comprehend is essential to spiritual health.
I say that faith is important, but I have spent a long time wrestling in my head with questions of “Why was I born?” “What is the meaning of life?” “What is the genesis of life and the universe?”. The best I can come up with is I know that in myself is a desire for order. I do not know if I want to live in a universe with no plan or guidance. I do not know why I feel this, but I know it deep down. I also do not know what this plan or force stems from, and I know that I will never know. So whatever that force is I try to listen for, and when I speak I give it my worries that I know no answer to.
Thereby symbolically and mentally I have filled my bucket with my worries and I won’t get in there I need to stay out here and work on the worries I know I can solve! This keeps me from freezing these days. This is part of what I owe my peace and sobriety to.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.”
From faith comes “Hope” and without hope you have nothing. I chose not to live in a universe without rules and guidance, so I am left to live by my own. Thereby I create my own universe of meaning with faith, belief, and hope. I feel that my consciousness must stem from something other than just the atoms whirling through the universe that make me up, and their electrical charge.

I have been having a hard time coming up with a journal topic for this video. I have really been in a groove with work, whatever this is, and my home life. I am starting to feel maybe a little defeated. I am still working on making the last couple hundred of rent that was already due on the first. I am hoping for my tax refund before next month gets here. If it does all will be fine. If it does not, well I will have to figure something out, I guess.
In the meantime, I have a family that is depending on me for more than just that money. They also need my time and attention. I need theirs just as much! In theory if I make my gas money plus $39 every day that covers rent. Easy enough, but utilities are another $20 a day and gas is running me about $10 a day. Is $69 (I promise I didn’t do that on purpose) a day feasible with DoorDash and Spark as my sole income? I will attach my earnings information at the bottom later on. It is my opinion that it is very doable I average about $85 a day from that income.
I put this in here with real numbers so people can get a perspective on what it costs to live in the Charleston, WV area. I also put it here with the earnings data for other people interested in working for themselves. I didn’t realize how much I was letting work stress eat into my alcoholism until I got rid of my bosses. Now when I am not happy I only have myself to blame for taking the order.
I keep records of number of deliveries, time worked, and miles traveled along with money earned. The way I see it I am running my own business so I need records. Also, it helps to know what days and times are busy.
Anyway life isn’t always a bowl of cherries, but I have come to really value my time on the road. There is so much to see around you everyday if you take the time to look!
Thank you for riding with me!

The algorithm on your phone is controlling your mind. If you aren’t aware that it exists, it will make your mind up for you before you know what happened. Enough of the drama, what AM I talking about? In the beginning man wanted to communicate with others in their tribe. The first languages were thought to be gestural similar to ASL (American Sign Language) today. But shortly after spoken language was developed we began to look for newer and more efficient ways to communicate ideas. Of course written language came about as a means to preserve ideas over time. Then variations on these languages came about for specialized purposes to signal across great distances or for noisy environments. Flags, smoke signals, lights, Morse code, etc. Until just before the 20th century.
Two major events changed the course of human communication. The first was the steam engine being utilized as a locomotive for trains. This allowed people to travel so far and quickly that time became a standardized concept. Prior to this, sundials would be used to calibrate time for each city, based on the position of the sun. This variable time lead to the introductions of time zones. A lot of talk about trains and time, so I will move on!
The second major event was the Marconi radio which lead to a series of advancements culminating with the telephone. The telephone industry produced the largest company to ever exist in the United States. Bell telephone, several universities, and a defense program known as DARPA created the internet. Later Bell was broken up in such a way as to make Verizon an owner of more of AT&T circa 1990 that AT&T owns today. Time has a funny way of making ones craziest notions into a monkey paw reality if you wait long enough.
Now people could travel anywhere and their ideas could travel faster. It should have been the greatest age in human civilization. But people are more miserable than ever. I want to tell another story now, quickly, and then I will wrap things up.
In the movie the Matrix it is mentioned that the machines that control humanity started by placing them in an ideal paradise. However, the people kept waking up, their minds could not handle perfection. So it was decided to put the people in an imperfect world that mirrored their own society. This way they would accept their reality. I think this throw away part of the story is the most likely to be true part of the entire fictional film.
We have created our own garden of Eden paradox that is reinforced each time we look at the internet. The phone shows us an ideal picture of the world where everyone smiles and has great lighting. Everyone is eating beautiful meals, but you just know it tastes bland. The more you see the beautiful world and fill your belly the more miserable you somehow feel.
As things get better, we take it for granted and become more bitter and negative. Turning first against others and then ourselves and our tribe. Our minds will not accept that things are perfect because the reality is things are a little better but we want it to be so much more. We keep waking up and many are willing to burn it all and throw it away. It is not chicken tenders and you are not eating brussel sprouts! Throw that shit on the floor!
As much as it pains me I have found that taking a breath and looking for something positive is the only thing that helps. If I discover a quicker secret I will share it here. Until next time, Thank you for Riding With Me!

How I Cleaned Up
How I cleaned up my act: I stopped drinking because I fuck it up every time. Maybe not the night I go out, but once I start I pick right up where I left off. Let me share my research with you:
I spent most of my life from 13-28 doing the harder drugs, but after an arrest the month I was graduating my MA program at a state University; I decided to switch to alcohol. At first I thought “what have I been wasting my life on drugs for, this is legal and cheap.”
I had about a decade of good times getting drunk every night and passing out. At some point near the end of that first decade I began to have debilitating tendinitis, and my hands began shaking. I had to quit my job as a bartender, and ironically switched to being a prep cook which involved lots of knife work. Always the optimist I thought it was my nerves as I had anxiety anyway.
As my drinking continued, I switched into restaurant management around 31 as first a general manager and later a district manager. I worked for a mid size pizza chain running 9 stores during the pandemic. As the stress and pressure built up at some point I started just drinking all day. I would wake up with these awful hangovers that only seemed better when I started drinking again. At first just a little, but before I knew it I was drinking all day every day until I passed out. I was still working 48-60 hour weeks and driving non-stop between locations.
At this point you might be wondering when I was going to kill someone with my recklessness. However, as luck would have it, I was working on myself as the victim. This was kind of on brand for me too. I started feeling sicker and weaker as time went on. I became a diabetic, my weight ballooned from an already too much 199 to 300 pounds in a couple years. I tried to quit drinking and noticed after a few hours I would be shaking and having trouble walking or talking. If I went longer I would start throwing up and hallucinating.
This was around the first time I went to the hospital to get help. They were very helpful the first time, I came in and gave them my symptoms. After triage they decided I needed to be put in ICU for a week because my heart could not maintain my blood pressure. I also had pancreatitis, but the best part was the catheter. Upon my release after two and a half weeks I was eager to begin my new life as a sober person. I made it a month and decided I would have a drink. I spent 7 times going to various hospitals and they were never as kind and helpful as the first time. I was told I was a waste of a bed, and could hear them complain about another drunk in between hallucinations.
Then came what should have been my last hurrah, I had called off work and drank for two days straight. My girlfriend went to work and left me home, but she called to check on me. When I didn’t answer, which to be fair happened a lot, she got concerned and came home. She found me naked and unresponsive on the floor in the bedroom. The hospital put my BAC at 45.6%, but somehow my dumb luck kept me alive. I went to rehab and spent over a month there after my two week hospital stay.
Maybe this should have been the end, but I spent all of 2023 relapsing and going to 28 day rehab. Did 3 stints, if you want to know first thing they do when you get there is strip you naked and have you lift your sack squat and cough. So it isn’t fun, but they tried (at the ones I went to) to make it therapeutic and as unlike prison as possible. Before my third stint I hiked down to the Kanawha River on a cold night drunk out of mind with full intentions on jumping in. It was at flood stage at the time, so you probably know where my train of thought was that night. That time when I went to the ER they told me they wouldn’t help me as I had no insurance because I was newly unemployed and didn’t have Medicaide. The doctor told my fiance and I that they were sending me home, but I shouldn’t quit drinking or I would die from a seizure.
Now the good news, I spent all of 2024 the end of 2023, and so far this year sober. I am happy 90% of the time and that other 10% I’m still happier than before. Life isn’t perfect, but if you don’t live it with a clear mind the choices get made for you. My problem was that I was negative and had a victim mindset, when I started being proactive with my life instead of just letting it happen to me things began to click. I blog on my website about my journey if anyone is interested. link in my bio.
I wish you luck in your journey and hope you find the peace and happiness you seek!
